Together our lives began so well,
With many magical wondrous years.
Sharing our glorious moments of bliss,
Could it ever possibly end up in tears?

For years we felt invincible,
We held our fate within our hearts.
Striking envy in all others eyes.
While no one could ever drive us apart!

Our passion for life was our guiding star,
Seeing the future take root from our past.
Holding the torch as we boldly rode on,
With all of our expectations surpassed.

They told us it would never last,
Our foundation being too weak at best,
We scoffed and knew we'd beat those odds,
Determined to survive this quest!

We’d climbed to the top of the highest peak,
And rode the crest of the tallest wave!
But when it vanished in a flash,
We knew it was gone and could never be saved!

How did we let it slip away?
How could we ever let it go?
We truly missed the tell-tale signs,
Which could have been quelled
when they began to show.

Dreading that something might take it away,
Hoping that day would never come to pass.
Our trailblazing went on for years,
Until the darkness crept in at last.

Nothing truly lasts forever,
Like civilizations that rise and fall.
But never a thought it could happen here,
Leaving nothing but a gloomy pall.
